Do you ever have a song, an idea, a storyline, or an image stuck in your head? And it just refuses to go away? For some time at least? I have this with music—it could be a song, an instrumental piece, a jingle, etc. This becomes my ‘now’ song, and the “nowness” (pardon my English here) could be for any length of time.
My ‘now’ song is Ve chori chori tere naal, a Punjabi folk song by Meesha Shafi, a Pakistani singer.
I was introduced to this song by a new colleague at work, who is an amateur musician and who listens to a wide range of music from all over the world. I was totally blown away with the soft, sensuous music and Meesha’s voice, and before I knew it I was listening to it again, and again. By that evening, it was my ‘now’ song. A little bit of research revealed that many (Pakistani) singers have rendered this song. I listened to all of them, but Meesha’s version, in my opinion is the best.
Enjoy 😀
P.S.: I also found the tune very similar to Lata’s Yaara seeli seeli (music ‘composed by Hridayanath Mangeshkar) from the Hindi film, Lekin. Does this make Yaara seeli seeli another of Bollywood’s inspired offerings? Or is it a coincidence? What do you think?
This could be one of those punjabi folk tunes. I don’t think this one ‘inspired’ Hridaynath’s creatiion. For one, this seems too recent.

This recording is recent, the song is not. I listened to a 1953 recording of this song by a Pakistani singer called Reshma, and that version is even more folksy.

You have quite similar passions like mine Music… Travel… Books.. Thx for sharing this number from Coke studio. Meesha is a girl with multiple talent. Fashion modeling or singing she has excelled in both areas. I remember when I first heard Meesha with Arif Lohar in Jugni ji
I could not come out of that songs for weeks. Coke Studia pak sessions have come out with many such gems.

Coke Studio pakistan has brought to life some great folk songs. This song was originally sung by Reshma. Meesha Shafi performed it well ( didn’t ruin it like Dasht-e-Tanhai)
