Do you ever have a song, an idea, a storyline, or an image stuck in your head? And it just refuses to go away? For some time at least? I have this with music—it could be a song, an instrumental piece, a jingle, etc. This becomes my “now’”song, and the “nowness” (pardon my English here) could be for any length of time.
My “now” song is Maula maula maula mere maula (or Arziyan) from the film Delhi 6, sung by Kailash Kher and Javed Ali with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi and music by A.R. Rehman.
This song is very special to me. Alone and homesick in London, this was a great song to calm and comfort me. It was also a song that helped me through dissertation angst and other course work as well. This song also transcended language barrier and had my Arabic- and Chinese-speaking friends hooked to it.
And back home in India, the song still continues to calm and comfort and support and inspire me as ever before.

My Favourite Things 
This was my ‘now song’ too…as was that other wonderful Rahman song ‘Khwaja mere Khwaja’. In general find it very difficult to resist Rahman in combination with Kailash Kher, Javed Ali or Mohit Chauhan…Move one to tears and uplift one’s heart all at the same time. How!

“Khwaja mere khwaja” is my caller tune, so if you were to call me up, you would hear an instrumental version of this song. 😀 As for Maula maula… I think it is also my forever song: I listen to it all the time.

That is an intense Sufi number that can quickly haunt you. One happily throws open one’s heart to the soulful rendition. No wonder you fell back to it. As for the squatting, that happens. Allow me to bore you with the squatters of my heart (no questions to be asked!):

Indeed, there is no better bliss than having a song you love stuck in your head. Though sometimes an irritating song also makes it way in like “Choli ke peeche kya hai” 😦
I love songs with a good melody, but more than anything else the lyrics. And this song is my all weather, all time song.

I don’t even know how I came across this, it’s a year old but I thought I’d share my “now” song…it’s “O Saiyyan” from Agneepath. Roop Kumar Rathod’s soft rendition and the soft tone of his voice makes it touching and hauntingly beautiful. It’s touches some unknown part of my heart…there’s this undertone of hope..
