Do you ever have a song, an idea, a storyline, or an image stuck in your head? And it just refuses to go away? For some time at least? I have this with music — it could be a song, an instrumental piece, a jingle, etc. This becomes my “now’” song, and the “nowness” (pardon my English here) could be for any length of time.
I love the rains, not so much for the romance associated with it, but for the freshness that it brings. It is a time for to take things a little slowly, for long walks, hot cups of tea, books to be read and listen to lots of music, particularly folk music. If you were to ask me what the connection is between folk music and the rains, I have no explanation.
Therefore, it is not surprising that my “now song is Anjan ki siti mein mhaaro man dole, a folk song sung by Rehana Mirza.
A mix of Rajasthani and Haryanvi, Anjan ki siti... has been pretty addictive and I have this song playing at home, at office… and often singing along with it as well. 🙂 I was introduced to this song by Teevramadhyam and I can’t thank him enough for this.

Thanks for sharing this song. It has been a long time since I listened to Jihale masti. But you know what got me excited when I saw the video? I recognised the setting — the song has been shot at Jaisalmer’s Bada Bagh or the site of cenotaphs of the royal family of Jaisalmer. I had visited Jaisalmer in February this year.

I love this song. Heard it for the first time during Doordarshan’s National Integration programme in the voice of two Rajasthani kids. 🙂 And now that you have reminded, can’t stop singing…:) So now this is my now song too. Just before reading your post it was the old classic Jhuki Jhuki si Nazar…

When I heard this song about two weeks ago, it was the first time I heard it. Would have loved to hear the kids sing it.

And this is the first time I have heard “Na ro bhai na ro…”. I don’t think anybody, but Rafi, could have sung this song. He had the most expressive voice ever.

In terms of style and rhythm, seems like a shamshad begum song from 1960s .. my now song is “bhag milkha” while I tell myself to do some jogging and lose some weight :)))

Yes, it does. I particularly like the rail gaadi beats of this song. I try not to let songs like Bhaag Milkha to become my “now” songs 😉
