  1. Ah, this was the one you mentioned, didn’t you? I am surprised you spotted it from below and could identify the people in the panel. The painters obviously were educated about religious and mythological stories. Was this the only one with Shankaracharya in the entire region that you saw?

    1. This is a small panel, but what caught my eye was the colour orange/ saffron and so different from the ochres and yellows that I had seen so far. Also, there was a sense of familiarity in the posture and grouping. It did look like Adi Shankaracharya when I looked at it and a glance through the zoom lens of my camera confirmed it. And yes, this was the only Shankaracharya I saw in the entire region.

      The artists definitely knew what they were painting either from their own travels or a reproduction of an illustration or artwork handed to them by their patrons.
